1791. The Selenographische Fragmente by J. H. Schröter

Looking through the works of Mayer, the German astronomer Johann Hieronymus Schröter is interested in lunar landscapes’ shadows depending on the sunshine. For Schröter, it is more about learning the structure and the height of these formations.

If Schröter’s drawings are sometimes criticized due to their rudimentary quality, it is important to point out that his work opened the lead to a cartography that is more rigorous on how the Moon is portrayed.
