Toward still other "Indias" ?

This is the Eastern part of Delisle's dream of an astronomy "historically based, and demonstrated by all the observations made until now". An East without Orientalism, thanks to the universalizing capacity of science. Had Joseph-Nicolas Delisle's lifetime, like Emperor Yao's, lasted almost two sexagenary cycles, maybe his curiosity would have been aroused by the "Western Indias" ? In any case, a short note on "the astronomy of the Mexicans" can be found in his papers and it ends up with the statement that "the Mexican astronomy is more popular than the Peruvian one because there are more Mémoires left from Mexico than from Peru." [1]
